About BMS - History and Overview
Founded in 1984, Baltimore Medical System serves over 42,000
patients in many of the neediest communities within Baltimore City
and Baltimore County - communities with high rates of unemployment
and poverty, low levels of education and job skills and few or no
health services.
BMS health services are provided through seven full-service primary
care health centers,
one specialty and ancillary health center and four school-based
health sites. We employ over 50
physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who
provide care in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics,
Adolescent Medicine, Geriatrics, OB/GYN and Mental Health.
Additional on-site services available through contracted providers
include eye services and a wide
range of medical specialties. We also have a staff of referral coordinators, trained to find the best doctor to match your specialty care needs.
We reach out to populations that have all types of barriers to
receiving even basic health. These barriers are often financial,
but also frequently include language, culture, education and even
transportation. BMS offers a wide range of programs
and services to reduce and eliminate these barriers, including
discounts of up to 90% on fees for qualified patients.
Our staff of nearly 260 employees is the driving force behind our
ongoing success in providing quality, affordable and accessible
health care to Baltimore's neediest populations. Through their
efforts and dedication, our mission is realized on a daily basis.
